Processing Packet Contents
Due to the extreme time constraints of this project, our processors are provided with a processing packet before they start working on a collection which allows them to begin processing as quickly as possible. Each packet contains: a preliminary biographical/historical note (to be enhanced by information acquired during processing); a preliminary list of authorities (to be augmented post-processing); any relevant accession or collection information from the repository’s files (when available); survey records for the collection; and the worksheets included below.
- PACSCL/CLIR Processing Plan Worksheet (This is created by Holly Mengel or Courtney Smerz prior to processing and provides basic collection information and a preliminary list of series to the processor(s).)
- PACSCL/CLIR Processing Worksheet (This is completed by the processor(s) and provides the project with data required to assess how the project is working and how our packets can be improved.)
- PACSCL/CLIR Preservation Worksheet (Because minimal processing does not allow for any/extensive preservation work, this worksheet provides valuable information regarding preservation needs to the archivists at each repository. This worksheet is completed by the processor(s).)
- PACSCL/CLIR Exhibits and Digitization Worksheet (All of these collections have documented value as a result of the PACSCL Survey Project. Therefore, if there are excellent items for exhibit and/or digitization, we want to make certain that repositories can find them. This worksheet is completed by the processor(s).)
- PACSCL/CLIR Post Processing Research Value Worksheet (This worksheet requires our processors to rank the research value of the collection following processing. Each collection was previously given a research value during the PACSCL Survey Project. The comparison of the pre- and post-processing research value is fascinating and will be shared once enough data has been acquired.)
